THE MOST COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- HOW MUCH WATER DOES AN EVAPORATIVE AIR CONDITIONER USE?
The consumption of water always depends on relative humidity and temperature of outside air during 24 hours and on the speed at which the cooler is operating. For stationary installed air coolers which are switched to the permanent water supply the consumption if water in a hot summer day is on the level from 13 up to 48 litres/h The lower the temperature of outside air- the lower is the consumption of water which might become even 0 when the air cooler is operating only as a ventilator.
It must be taken into account that the part of the water is delivered with cooled air into the premises and part of the water must be drained from the cooler by special device for decreasing in the water tank of the cooler dirt which always is dissolved in the water and which accumulated at the bottom of the water tank, water pump and filters. In the countries where the local regulations prohibit such drainage of water the air coolers require more often servicing (cleaning of all above mentioned parts of air cooler from accumulated dirt by usual water without using any chemicals).
- WHAT SERVICE MAINTENANCE REQUIRES OUR AIR COOLERS?
Very little. Depending on the degree of pollution in the environments (mainly dust and dirt) you will only need to clean water tank, water pump and filters at the end of each summer season. In very dirty areas more often. The cleaning is made by usual water with sponge without any chemicals (see also answer to the previous question).
Filters of BREEZAIR type EA air coolers are made from aspern tree chips which have very high level of water saturation can be used 3-5 years depending on the quality of cleaning them. After each cleaning you must be sure that the chips of aspern tree are evenly distributed by surface of the filter.
Air coolers of BREEZAIR type TBA, ICON and RPX have filters of CHILLCELL type which do not required regular cleaning.
The cost of maintenance and service of our air coolers is only 15- 20% comparing with the same for conditioners of other types, including compressor type. The service of our air coolers can be made by the users themselves.
- HOW THE WATER COMES TO THE AIR COOLERS?
Stationary BREEZAIR air coolers must be connected permanently to the water supply with the help of metal or rubber pipes (for example GARDENA type) and the level of water in water tank is controlled by the floating ball valve. In mobile BREEZAIR air coolers EA120SVM the water can be switched directly to the water supply or the water can be filled manually (100 liters). The household air coolers of CONVAIR type have a special door for pouring the water manually. Stationary BREEZAIR air coolers EA, TBA, ICON and RPX can be supplied with the special device for cleaning and controlling the quality of the water delivered to the air coolers. This can help to prolong the life of filters.
- DO THE FILTERS OF OUR AIR COOLERS CLEAN THE AIR?
Yes. The air is cleaned. Filters are catching all the dust and many smaller particles (with the size of more then 10 microns) such as pollens which cause serious human discomfort. Above this our air coolers diminished all unpleasant smelts and tobacco smoke. But the filters can clean the air only in the case when the air coolers are working as air coolers i.e. when the water is circulated through filters. In winter time in the regions where the temperature of outside air is decreasing below 0 degree C the air coolers cannot work as the cleaners of the air because the supply of water to the air coolers must be stopped since the water can be frozen in the air coolers.
So during winter period the air coolers of evaporative type can be used as powerful ventilation system and in case of necessity of cleaning the air in winter time must be additionally equipped with filters which are usually used by usual ventilation system and which must be installed in the ducting system.
- BY WHAT MAXIMUM RELATIVE HUMIDITY EVAPORATIVE AIR COOLERS CAN BE USED?
Evaporative air coolers stably work by relative air humidity of outside air up to 70%.Their effectiveness increasing by decreasing relative humidity of outside air and increasing of the temperature of outside air. However they are used quite well and under higher levels of relative humidity (up to 80%). In this case the number of air changes in the premises must be bigger as usually recommended for each concrete climatic zone (up to 60 changes of air during one hour). By the level of relative humidity of outside air more then 80%
the air coolers must be operating only as ventilators. This also creates some positive effects and increases the level of comfort in the premises with the number of changes of air 30-60 times per hour.
- FOR HOW MANY DEGREES C CAN BE TEMPERATURE IN THE PREMISES DECREASED BY EVAPORATIVE AIR COOLERS?
It depends on the relative humidity and temperature of the ambient air. Please look at the enclosed chart and you receive answer to this question.

For example, under the temperature of 25 degrees C and the relative humidity of outside air 50% the air in the premises will be cooled to 20 degrees C – drop of temperature for 5 degree C. Under the temperature of outside air 35 degrees C and relative humidity of outside air 30% the air in the premises will be cooled to 25 degrees C – drop of the temperature for 10 degrees C. However the level of comfort in the premises depends not only on decreasing of the temperature in the premises but also on the movements of the air in the premises. So regarding the first example the real feeling of heat by the body of the person as a result of influencing on him these two factors (decreasing of temperature and movements of the air) will be approximately corresponding to 16 degrees C. Regarding the second example – 21 degrees C. This is the phenomenon of evaporative air cooling when creating required level of comfort for people, animals and plants. There must be also remembered that the difference in the temperatures between outside and inside air in the premises more than 7 degrees C is already dangerous for people and animals. Using of evaporative air coolers in the premises creates the comfortable atmosphere for people and animals.
- DO THE EVAPORASTIVE AIR COOLERS INCREASE THE HUMIDITY IN THE POREMISES?
Yes, they do. The humidity will increase slightly but it will not be evident unless you close the premises up. Such increase usually not feeled if you follow our recommendations and leave the windows and doors opened (if this is not enough it is required to install additional exhaust ventilation). Usually for each 1 000 cub.m of delivered to the premises via our air coolers cooled air necessary to have 0, 8 sq.m of exhaust openings or necessary to install additional exhaust ventilation.
- WHY IN THE PREMISES MUST BE OPEN WINDOWS AND DOORS?
Since our air coolers are using as coolant simple water which evaporates when the warm outside air is going via moisturized by water filters of the air coolers and delivered in the premises together with the cooled air the humidity in the premises increases. Such additional humidity is not feeled by the humans or animals bodies and also by plants if your follow one of the main rules of functioning of air coolers of evaporative type – how much air is delivered to the premises via evaporative air coolers so much must be exhausted from the premises via openings or/and via additional exhaust ventilators. For the best results, always allow the air from the air coolers to flow through the premises (see the answer to the previous question). Otherwise humidity in the premises can reach the level which can negatively influence the level of comfort in the premises. From this also can be made a conclusion that our air coolers have no alternative in those premises where it is impossible to make full insulation of the premises from the outside for installation of any other conditioning systems of other types (for example compressor type).
The outside air is coming to the premises only via air coolers creating in the premises a little bit higher pressure as compare with outside pressure. That is why dirty outside air can not come to the premises via opened windows and doors.
- WHAT IS THE MAIN PRINCIP OF OPERATION OF EVAPORATIVE AIR COOLERS?
Did you ever wonder why you feel cooler by the sea or by a river? It is because of natural evaporation: a sea breeze feels cold because hot air is blown over water causing some of the water to evaporate and absorb heat from the air the air is cooled by this evaporation process to become a refreshing breeze. Or another question: What are you feeling when you are coming from the sea water on the beach after swimming in a hot day when the temperature of the water reaches 27 degrees C and air - 35-40 degrees C? Of course you are feeling cool. But the air and water are warm?! And it seems there must be no place for feeling cool. The principle is the same – When the hot air moved above your skin wet with sea water the water evaporate and as a result the skin and your body feel cool.
Air coolers of BREEZAIR and CONVAIR types simply have taken this natural process and developed it with state-of-the art technology. Each BREEZAIR and CONVAIR air coolers contain large filter pads. During the cooling cycle these pads are kept wet by our patented Water Distribution System. Hot air from outside is then drawn through these pads by a powerful centrifugal fan, and is cooled by the evaporation process.
So BREEZAIR AND CONVAIR air coolers supply a constant flow of naturally cooled fresh air, without any air being recirculated. Simplicity of design gives to our air coolers many advantages over compressor-type air conditioning.
- HOW MUCH ELECTRICITY CONSUMPT EVAPORATIVE AIR COOLERS
Consumption of electricity depends on the power of electrical motors of the coolers and vary from 50 up to 220 watt/h for the capacity of air coolers from 650 up to 1 600 cub.m/h of cooled air (CONVAIR air coolers) and 600 -2 000 watt/h for the capacity of CONVAIR air coolers of warm air (only model 800CH) 1080 cub.m/h. For the BREEZAIR coolers of commercial-industrial use the consumption of electricity vary from 70 up to 4 500 watt/h for the capacity respectively from 6 000 up to 33 000 cub.m/h of cooled air.
By comparison with refrigerated (compressor) systems evaporative air coolers use about one tenth of the electrical energy as the others do. So they are very low cost machines to operate. From this point they do not have any analogue in the world.
11. WHAT INFLUENCE ON THE HEALTH OF PEOPLE AND ENIMALS HAS BREEZAIR AND CONVAIR EVAPORATIVE AIR COOLERS?
Our air coolers/conditioners/climatizators have only positive and favorable influence on the people, animals.and plants as compare to the conditioners of all other types, including compressor conditioners.
Our coolers are not drying air in the premises , they are delivering to the premises 100% of fresh and cleaned air, they maintain a very healthy level of moisture which is good not only for people but also for animals, plants, furniture , books , flowers etc.. In case of the necessity they can odorize the delivered in the premises air with required for you smelts and ingredients (for example eucalyptus etc.). They are diminishing such diseases like asthma and allergy. They decrease the level of professional diseases for about 6 times (for example cancer of skin and breathing organs etc.). They decrease the level of static electricity in the premises.
- WHAT KIND OF INSUFFICIENCIES HAVE BREEZAIR AND CONVAIR AIR COOLERS?
There are some of them.
First: The air coolers of evaporative type are effectively operating under the condition that relative humidity of outside air is not more than 70 - 80%. If the relative humidity is overcoming this level the air coolers must be switched to the mode of operation as simple ventilators. However in the regions with high relative humidity the comfortable conditions in the premises can be achieved even when the relative humidity reaches 80-100% by installation of bigger number of our air coolers which give the possibility to increase the number of changes of air in the premises even up to 60 times/h.
Second : In winter time when the temperature outside is below 0 and there is a risk of water freezing the evaporative air coolers must be switched off from the water supply and turned to the mode of operation like usual ventilators. As the result the evaporative air coolers cannot fulfill its function as air coolers (though operating as normal ventilators they will deliver in the premises cold outside air decreasing the temperature in the premises) and of course the air coolers cannot operate as the cleaners of the air since the water is not saturating the filters. But in this case it is possible to install in ducting usual types of filters which are usually used in the classical ventilation systems Of course in this case the level of cleaning of outside air will be lower. However if to install our air coolers not outside of the premises but inside of some intermediate premises in which the outside air can be heated to the temperature above 0 degrees C then our air coolers can fulfill all their functions round the year. All depends on the tasks which are stated before our air coolers: if the production line needs cleaning the air and its moisturizing round the year such variant might be used though it might be slightly more expensive (since appeared some additional costs for heating the air).
Third: And this relates mainly to the air coolers of household use CONVAIR type – very often the end user simply incorrectly use them closing for example windows and doors when the air coolers are switched on to operating as air coolers. As a result the humidity in the premises can increase thus creating some level of discomfort. That is why when buying these air coolers please carefully read the Instruction Manual.
Such situation practically impossible for evaporative air coolers of commercial-industrial use BREEZAIR type because their installations are made after careful engineering calculations taking into account as all factors influencing the operation of evaporative air coolers as well as the factors of influencing air coolers on the created by them atmosphere in the premises.
But with the first two insufficiencies in many cases you must put up since the advantages received by using our air coolers of evaporative type are bigger in comparison with these two insufficiencies in some premises where the installation of any other system simply impossible technically or economically too expensive. |
